• E FOR GOOD’S E-WASTE POEM (with help from Dr Seuss)
  • I’ve always been a fan of Dr Seuss’s books.  Green Eggs and Ham, Hortense the Elephant and The Sneetches are just some of his gems.  And they all have a message – often quite subtle.  The most environmental of his stories is the Lorax – ‘I am the Lorax, and I speak for the trees, which you  Continue Reading »

  • Julia and Melinda visit SWEEEP
  • The huge grabber hand plunged into the pile of e-waste waiting below. You could see irons, toasters, kettles, hairdryers – all sorts of household electrical detritus on its way to oblivion.  Or perhaps I should say reincarnation.  Almost all of it is recycled in one form or another.  Click here for Blog about Julia and  Continue Reading »

  • Julia and Melinda and The Great Recovery
  • The Great Recovery  is campaigning to get the UK to move away from the ‘make-use-dispose’ economic model.  They organised a workshop, at SWEEEP – e-waste recycling plant.  See blog Julia wrote about the visit.  The well attended workshop highlighted the negative impacts of our current linear system, which means that raw materials are dug out  Continue Reading »

  • HOUSEHOLD COLLECTION OF E-WASTE – Mar12
  • CLEAR OUT ELECTRICALS WEEK One man was a bit threatening.  He said “Don’t you lay a finger on my e-waste’!  It turned out that he was a dealer.   But he was very much the exception.  We selected 550 households in Grantham and 350 in Stamford for a household collection of e-waste – and they were  Continue Reading »

  • HOTELS SUPRISED US WITH THEIR E-WASTE – CLEAR OUT ELECTRICALS WEEK – Mar12
  • One of the biggest surprises of Clear Out Electricals Week was discovering that the hotels we stayed in had large quantities of e-waste that we were able to collect for recycling.   The Angel in Grantham and the Garden Hotel in Stamford have helped us in developing an e-waste service for the hotel industry.   And the  Continue Reading »

  • SCHOOLS PARTICIPATE IN CLEAR OUT ELECTRICALS WEEK – Mar12
  • We selected three schools in the area to participate in Clear Out Electricals Week: Harlaxton Primary Schools, Kesteven Grammar and Stamford College.  Activities they were involved with included: Questionnaires:  We sent out questionnaires asking pupils about their e-waste – how much of it they produce and what they think happens to it.   We discovered 93%  Continue Reading »

  • CLEAR OUT ELECTRICALS WEEK – LOCAL NEWSPAPER OVERFLOWING – Mar12
  • The Stamford Mercury – local newspaper – had their reception area over-flowing with e-waste.  And a corner of their office too. They’d publicised our Clear Out Electricals Week on the front page of the paper – and suggested that readers bring e-waste into their offices.  They were flooded!  The cage we’d provided was full by  Continue Reading »

  • RECCE FOR GRANTHAM ‘CLEAR OUT ELECTRICALS WEEK’ (Jan12)
  • At the end of January, Julia, Melinda and Corina, drove across the country from Somerset to Lincolnshire. The first Clear Out Electricals Week is being held near Grantham because that’s where Environcom, the e-waste company we’re working with, is based.   During the visit we confirmed participation from three schools in the area – including  Continue Reading »

  • CORINA REAY JOINS AS CAMPAIGN MANAGER (Jan12)
  • Corina Reay worked for the Ecos Trust for 10 years.  The Somerset-based organisation promoted sustainable building and construction, but towards the end of 2011, it folded.   Julia remembered Corina from when she was a Trustee of Ecos and got in touch.  E For Good was extremely lucky to have recruited her as our first  Continue Reading »
